My love for writing started early for me at eleven and twelve years old. I grew up in the 90's era where children's horror books became very popular. I also started Journaling at that age. I would write out my life and frustrations as well as dreams and goals. I also liked reading other stories like folklore and many other stories. The horror books are what intrigued me more than the others.
I would write my own stories and my brother would be the illustrator. it was fun and eventually, the older I got, the more I would write. My grandmother got me a typewriter as a teenager and I used up all the ink. I typed so much after school that I used up all the ink.
I also was involved in church more at the age of fifteen and sixteen. I would write short stories more toward the bible. I wrote one essay during a Black Caucas event and won third place in the Southeast Bootheel Missouri Area.
As an adult, I worked more and I just stopped writing for many years till I was twenty-five and then I took up writing again while employed as a Child Care Director. Writing has always been therapeutic to me and it enhances my imagination which has somewhat never left me. I truly believe that writing is one of my gifts that was given to me to share with others.
MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD BOOKS
Some of the books that I loved reading when I was a child were Eric Carle's books. Dr. Suess, the Berenstain Bears, If You Give A Mouse Cookie books, Caps for Sale, R.L Stine, and more. As I got older I read many varieties of more books but V. C Andrews were my favorite and Alice Walker along with Maya Angelou. I was also into Dean Koontz, Edgar Alan Poe, and more.
My favorite African American writers are Zora Neale Hurston, Colson Whitehead, Sister Soulja, Toni Morrison, Jesmyn Ward, Mary B Morrison, and Mary Monroe.
